  7. 1. The tree main themes that I identified in the story were loyalty, friendship and never give up. The first one was because no matter what everybody thought about the old man. manolin wanted to be always helping him because he was a LOYAL friend. Manolin was always verifying if santiago needed something; for example food, medicines or a place to sleep. FRIENSHIP: When you have a friend that person is going to be your friend in the bad days and in the very good ones. That is why at the end of the story was the only one who was waiting for the old man to arrive. NEVER GIVE UP: No matter how big was the problem of the old man trying to catch the marlin he never gave up in any of the bad circunstances.

2.The most memorable part for me was when Santiago was always saying into the ocean that all the things were dofferent if manolin was there. That means that he really missed Manolin; Santiago loved the boy like if he was his own son or the only person that he had in the world.

  8. 1.- Love between Santiago and Manolín, the boy had been with him since he was vey young, so he loves Santiago as a father.Santiago used to take care of him, and when he was deep on the sea he wishes the boy was there with him.
    - Perseverance because Santiago was always perseverant and prove of that is that he spent 87 days inside the sea no mater he ate or not, but he knew what he wanted and he persevered to reach it.
    - Humbleness because he didn´t pay attention to
what other people say, he knew who he was and when he finally caugt the Marlin he continue been humble.

    2. At the end when the poor man arrived to he beach. He was almost destroyed but not defeated.

  9. 1)"Giving up is not an option" I would say that because the old man never lost his desire to overcome the fish. He knew that it was a difficult thing, but he stood and got what he wanted.
"Real friendship" I think they demonstrated a sincere friendship because they always took care of each other.
"Be faithful, things are going to be better". No matter if you do not have another person by your side, you can overcome whatever thing want if you have a real desire.

    2) The part when the old man is tired and it seems that he is going to give up, but he gains strength and he defeats the fish. I liked that part because it is a remembrance that human beings are able to do whatever thing they want, and nothing can stop us.

  10. 1-Friendship, beacuase there is a part in which they spend time togueter sharing past experiences and talking about baseball.

-Courage, when santiago goes sailing after he spent 84 days without catching a fish.

-The honor in struggle, defeat and death.
from the very begining Santiago is characterized as someone struggling agains defeat. He has gone 84 days without catching a fish. the sail of his skiff resembles "the flaf of permanent defeat"

    2. The most memorable part for me was when Santiago returned to the village with the
marlin´s skeleton and manolin saw him and sterted to cry. I really like it becuase I could notice the love each other feel.

    1. "Harvest what you plant" because Santiago gave Manolin his friendship so Manolin was the only who was waiting for Santiago.
"A man is defeated until his intelligence is" Santiago was an old man and wasn`t too much strong phisically, but he has an open mind and he could fight for what he wanted.
"Fight for what you want" Santiago gave us a good message because he wanted to have enough fish, so went to the sea and he had one big fish...Sometimes we don`t wanna continue because life is too hard and difficult and we just give up, but even the obstacules we can achieve what we want, it is just have faith in ourselves!

2.When Santiago and Manolin talk for many hours about Yankees and they figure they have food but they don`t... I guess this is an intelligence way to face problems just being positive! Another part that I like too much is when Santiago talks with the Marlin and he sees him as his brother...Santiago is traying to find someone else to talk and trust in him...also he thinks the Marlin is so strong, endurenced and intelligence as he is.

  12. 1.True love for a fiend because Manolin never abandoned Santiago eventhought he was asked to do it.Besides, Santiago always trusted in Manolin for he was loyal with him.
    2. Courage because Santiago showed everybody in town that he was not salao and that he was still strog by fishing the Marlin.
3.Religiousness because Santiago prayed to the viging in order to be able to continue going on.

theme= when he fought against the fish and the sharks

  13. 1) Pride: Because the old man wanted to show others that he was able to do amzing things by himself. He fought against the big fish until the end no matter that he suffered too much.
Faith: The old man never gave up. He was sure that he was going to win against the fish because he new that he had enough strength to stand against any adversity.
Frienship: Because the old man and the boy were always wishing good thing to each other. The boy helped his old friend giving him food and sardines to fish. The old man wished many times that the boy were with him when he was in the ocean fighting against the big fish
    2) The most memorable part for me was when the old man came back to his shack, and the boy started to cry when he saw the old man in his bed. I realy liked the way the boy loved and respected the old man, and he showed his love crying because he might thought that his friend had died.

  14. A1.1-FAITHLESS when he just could not catch any fish not at the beginning but while the days passed they became faithless maybe was not the season.

A1.2 LOYALTY because even though Manolin`s parents did not want him to be there with the old man Manolin was there.

A1.3 And how a person who you do not know or is not part of your family cares about you, for example when Manolin looks for tuna to give him

A2 Actually there is no especific moment in the story, but I liked most the way their relationship (the old man and manolin`s)was, i mean no matter what, no matter who,no matter where they were together and they showed what they felt for each other by spontaneous actions.

  15. 1- Perseverance: Because through the story you see the main character Santiago fighting all the time against himself and also against all the things people think about him. Example: In the climax you see santiago trying to catch a fish in order to prove anyone he was not salao, and he was an excellent fisherman. He never gave up until he got what we wanted.

1.2- Compassion: The character Manolin sees Santiago as a old poor man, so he feels respect for him but specially compassion. In the story you see him as Santiago´s best friend. Example: Manolin brings food to santiago and spends some hours in his shack talking about baseball and hearing santiago´s opinions.

1.3- Proud: The character Santiago shows humbleness through the story, but at the same time he wants people to know he was an experience and good fisherman. He wants people to recognize his skills. Example: When Santiago finally caught the marlin, he wanted to bring it home in order to show that he could be physically destroy but he still had internal strength.

2.- The most memorably part of the story for me was the part in which the author describes the relationship between Santiago and Manolin. For me Frienship is one of the most important things in life, and the story describes a real and sincere frienship between to people. I think we should learn from them and aplly it with our friends.

  16. 1)
=> Never give up because Santiago had many troubles in the sea, like sharks with those who he struggled, also the way to catch the marlin because he had to create a strategy to do it. Despite all these problems, Santiago never gave up, he struggled until achieve what he wanted.
=> Friendship because thoung Manolin was a boy and Santiago an old man, they have a good relationship; they loved each other, and they need each other because when Manolin was far of Santiago, Santiago was thinking what the boy was doing, and the same happened with Manolin because he also was thinking what Santiago was doing. Although Santiago was not an expert, he taught to the boy, and though many people said Santiago was an unlucky man, Manolin was always waiting the man´s advice.
=> It´s perfect to dream because we need to dream in order to get what we want. Santiago was dreaming to fish a good Marlin and at the end, he got it.
    2)
The end of the story was the best for me because it expresses a good friendship. I felt really sensible and motivated when I read it because the boy was waiting the old man with his open hearth . I think the boy missed Santiago a lot when Santiago was in the sea for three days, and when the boy saw the old man, the boy told him that they will fish together, and they will have wonderful experiences together because they had a nice friendship.

  17. Number 1.
    1. Hope. The old man never lost the hope even though a lot of people were thinking he was "salao".
Ex. Santiago had eighty four days wihtout takig a fish, but he thought: eighty five is a good number, so tomorrow I would catch a big fish.

    2. Sacrifice. Santiago knew he was old, but he struggled with the big fish during three days, and he fights against the sharks trying to save his fish.
Ex. Santiago is weak because he has three days into la mar without eat something good for his stomach, but he killed four sharks and he hurts two more.
    3. Victory. Santiago does not take the complete big fish, but he has de prooves that he caught it.
ex. The tourist in the Terrace ask: what is that? because the skeleton of the big fish is something that never had been seen before.

    Number 2.
when Manolin finds Santiago lay donw in the bed with his shoulders, back and arms very hurt, and Maolin starts to cry. Because if you see someone that you really love in the way that Santiago was could be something really sad.
